The Libyan Norton 16H's page

This is the first but probably not the last page devoted to another British Marque (and also made in Birmingham) of  Motorbike to serve in the British armed forces in substantial numbers during WWII

Our roving correspondant at large in Libya has been sniffing out more old WD War Machines - best find recently is this second Norton 16h in Tripoli the countrys capital, and what is claimed to be a New Old Stock BSA WM20 engine lump complete with magdyno, Ill slap up a photo of that elsewhere but here you can drool over yet another restoration candidate - this time in much better condition than the relic dragged from the dunes featured below.

Wish I had the funds to get it for myself

Below we have still my firm favourite - I mean you cant get much more authentic than dragged from the dunes of the battlefields of El Alemein, It might be all over rusty but with a LOT of TLC I think it could be restored to working order - never concours condition but I wouldnt care with such a historic bike - and I would try and use 99% of the original parts too! Sigh! we can but dream.....

A real battlefield find!

Ever since Ulrich mentioned in his restoration diary the finding of a Norton 16H I have been on tenterhooks to see some pictures of it - I have a soft spot for Norton 16H's as my Father rode one in the Royal Engineers when he was out in North Africa attached to the Sudan Defence Force. After I had restored my BSA M20's this was going to be the subject of my next project. Im hoping against hope that somehow I may eventually own this particular bike and restore it to running condition.

Fortunately the dry desert conditions have preserved the metalwork far better than wetter European climates, however the sun & heat has bleached out things like the bakelite steering damper knob and the rubber knee pads.
