Fellow BSA WM20 enthusiast Richard Corcoran has already built a 1944 BSA WM20 and is now moving on to a far more ambitious 1939 BSA KM20. It involves sourcing early parts such as the front brake rod and brake assembly, the early oil button engine with magdyno pinion access port in the timing cover, the early rear frame with no pillion footrest mounts and braised on field side stand mount, not to mention the early pattern shorter field side stand itself.

First we start with the frames:-

This is where you discover your frames secrets

And now the rebuild begins! Heres a pic of the primed and topcoated frame reassembled with engine mounting plates and gearbox fitted, Spare time permitting progress should be encouragingly swift to get all the major lumps back in place - most of the preparatory work having been done beforehand.

Note the early frame features - no pillion lugs

and fixed field side stand lug

Baloon tank refinished in VGC

Updated 18th Sept 2008.
Richard has now started the long process of putting the accumulation of restored parts back together, First he turned his attention to the early large capacity tank (3 1/2 Imperial Gallons) Sometimes called the baloon tank or less flatteringly the slab sided tank Richard has opted for the early war type of C Markings in white on a black rectangle with white border. At least on the big tank theres plenty of space for it! It gets a bit crowded on the smaller more streamlined 3 gallon tank.

The tank sanded down and undercoated

with the modern equivalent of red lead primer

Top coat added in early war BEF Khaki matt

Its a slightly lighter greyer colour than later war

The white box is added first

finished off by hand - Et Voila the finished markings!

Other smaller individual items are going to be shown on the Photo reference library, such as the KLG cap and F777 mica spark plug
