Below are a couple of pics of an undoubtedly original Webbing motorcycle type seat, there is some doubt whether they were actually used on M/C's or Sexton & Archer Self Propelled gun AFV's,

We have some additional input from Steve Madden and Jenny our guest authenticity experts - about these webbing saddles usage:-

I too, have heard that they may be seats for SPG's, AA, etc. This is entirely possible.

However, a scan through some wartime M20 parts lists lists "Wrights" saddle (though does not specify the material). This saddle has a "W43" part number, perhaps suggesting "1943" ??? (Ed's note - originally M43 was quoted but this was a typo now corrected)

The parts lists concerned detail 3 makes/types of saddle to be found on M20's within a particular contract, presumably due to supply issues (before the "universal/standardised" saddle introduced in 1944)....these saddles are made by "Terry", "Lycette" (these saddles having aero-elastic mattress system rather than springs) and "Wrights".

The BSA M20 lists are the only manufacturer to actually list/use/fit the "Wrights" saddle at the factory, but they were possibly fitted to other makes as a replacement part when necessary. There is a fourth manufacturer of wartime saddles, this being "Mansfield". However, these were a smaller (Bantam) size and fitted to WD James ML and RE Flying Flea !!
